Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon relish
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 lb ground round
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 (6-inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 slices American cheese, cut in half lengthwise
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/4 cup diced onion

Directions

  1. Make the Sauce In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, and hot sauce. Mix well and set the sauce aside.
  2. Heat the Griddle Heat a griddle over medium-high heat until hot.
  3. Prepare the Beef Divide the ground beef into 4 loose portions. Place them as mounds on the hot griddle. Season each mound evenly with Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cook for 2 minutes to sear.
  4. Smash the Beef Place a tortilla on top of each beef mound. Use a spatula to press down firmly, flattening the beef into the shape and size of the tortilla. Cook until the tortilla is golden-brown, about 2 to 3 more minutes.
  5. Flip and Add Cheese Flip each patty over so the tortilla is on the bottom. Top each patty with a half-slice of American cheese. Cook until the cheese has melted and the tortilla has lightly browned, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Assemble the Tacos Once the cheese has melted, remove the patties from the griddle. Top each with shredded iceberg lettuce and diced onion. Drizzle with the prepared sauce. Fold the tortilla in half to form a taco.
  7. Serve Immediately Serve the smash burger tacos immediately while they’re hot and enjoy!

Tips for Perfect Smash Burger Tacos

  • Heat Control: Make sure your griddle is sufficiently hot before placing the beef mounds to achieve a good sear.
  • Even Pressing: Use a sturdy spatula to press down the tortillas evenly, ensuring the beef spreads out properly.
  • Fresh Ingredients: Use fresh lettuce and onions for a crisp contrast to the juicy burger patty.
